My 3-year-old standard poodle won't eat. I have had her tested with ultrasound, blood tests, etc. through the vet and although her folate levels are low, all else looks good. She has good energy, runs with my hubby and hikes with me but she will NOT eat on a regular basis no matter what I try. This is a dog who will snub her nose at a spoonful of peanut butter, a piece of cheese, a raw elk knuckle bone, etc. etc. She has been on dry food and wet food of all kinds; on a hypoallergenic dog processed dog food for 3 months at a time; on a raw food diet with supplements for digestion---all of which she will eat a little bit of now and again but has no real interest. She has a low body weight (46 lbs) and is maintaining that weight but it is a real worry to not have her eat. Any ideas? Any possible natural (or chemical) appetite stimulants that have worked for others?

There are appetite stimulants you can buy, the one I have used before is Nutrigel, it is a horrid smelling paste, but rub it on their gums and a few hours later they usually start eating. Plus it is loaded with essential vitamins and minerals.

I am unsure whether this specific product would be available where you live but there are many similar products on the market, just ask at your local vets or even some pet stores carry them.

Some dogs are just fussy and if you have had tests done by a vet and the dog seems happy and healthy (apart from the weight) then chances are the dog really is healthy... just picky.
