You just have to take her to a hospital emergency room, they'll check her in and keep her for as many days as it takes to get her stable. Probably 1 week at the min. Would she be willing to go?

dogandengland,
Can you give us more information? Is she like this all the time or periodically? My dad suffered from bp and our childhood was miserable, if I can think of anything that might help you I will let you know. Do you have children? Does she work?

When you go into the emergency room do you say or she say that you're scared your going to kill yourself? If you told them this and they STILL didn't accept you, then I see how you have a MAJOR problem. Is Bristol small? If so, is there a bigger city near by that has a hospital. They can't turn you away if she says she's going to kill herself. Let me know what's going on when you get the chance.

I think it doesn't matter what your Dr. thinks, get a new one!! You CANNOT deal with a Dr. who says that someone who wants to kill themseleves is not ill enough to go into the hospital. I say back to what I suggested, head to an emergency room and set your wife up with new Dr. I have had a Dr. that told me she thought I liked being depressed, that I just liked the high of meds and that she wouldn't treat me. It hurt SO badly because I knew I wasn't right.
You live with your wife, you know your wife, so if you think she is bad enough that you are having to post to get some extra help, then she REALLY needs to get the help she deseerves. Maybe she needs new meds, now that I know what her Dr. is like, I fear that she isn't on the right cocktail of drugs in the first place.
I know it took me 4 Dr. and 16 different type of meds in order to get right. I have found a wonderful Dr. who just believes what I say and really listens and she won't quit, having me feel just a little OK or a closer to normal isn't OK by her She invests herself in getting me to a point where I can function as normally as possible, I'd be dead right now w/o her, I would had tried to kill myself along time ago.
Trust me, I've tried killing myself twice and was REALLY pissed off when my attempts didn't work. I didn't think it was ever possible for me to get to a place where I wouldn't want to die. And I'm here and I can't believe it still.
Don't give up, go to emergency and from there you will be set up with the right kind of treatment. Never give up, forget the crap your Dr. said.
Get back to me.

I just have to say once more, if someone wants to end the life they are living, a person can't get anymore "ill" than that. So, while I donl't understand what you mean when you say this Dr. was very helpful, I do know I have never once went to a Dr. that has heard me say I want to die and hasn't done anything about it. Suicide is THE lowest low and this so called "Dr." pissed me off royaly!! Don't listen to him!
