I was fired from my job at a shop. I was there 9 months and my probation period was 6months. In those 9 months I was never told I was doing anything wrong. But I would not pay for my lunch sometimes. When I asked why I was fired I was told by the manager 'i was told not to tell you because your not here a year'. So I assume it was for gross misconduct. But can I sue for unfair dissmissal and should I have been told why I was fired? Also I was at my solicitor but did not tell him about not paying for my lunch as I didnit think of it at the time. Before I worked for my employers the shop was been rented by my former bosses which I worked for, for 1yr and 4months. So I had been working on the premisses doing the same job for 2 yrs and 2 weeks. There was no break in employment. I started working for my employers 3 days after my former employers gave up the lease to the shop. Also I got a phone call from a friend of mine that I worked in the shop with my first bosses and he was able to tell me why I was fired even though he's nothing to do with the shop ad doesn'nt know the manager which means the manager told 1 of the staff which worked with me and my friend why I was fired and she told my friend. So she was telling the staff why I was fired but wouldn't tell me.

Under Ireland laws you can request a written explanation of your dismissal which must be delivered within 14 days of the request. You can then see if it qualifies as an unfair dismissal.
