Hi speedball1's. Can you riddle me this? I have a toilet that is backing up, it will drain but it takes 5-10 min. We hired a plumber to snake the toilet 7-8 times using different tips. Each time he snaked the toilet to the septic it had nothing on the tips. It still would not drain so he snaked it from the septic to the toilet, still not draining. Checked the vent and was not clogged either. We put a hose in the toilet and it was draining but we don't know where because nothing was draining into the septic. We do have two septics however, this toilet uses the septic that's not getting any water

Sounds like a broken pipe to me. The snake makes it through to the septic tank but the water flows out through the break. That would also account for the periodic stoppage. The tissue and solids get caught on the break, accumulate and block the line.

Next time toilet stops up remove toilet, fill pipe with water. Run snake down pipe. When water starts to flow stop snake. Mark and pull snake out and measure. That should give you some idea of where the break is. Otherwise its run a camera down the line.

Remove toilet and run water (from hose) directly into the pipe. See if it fills up. Also, check the toilet bowl. You may have large object lodged in its trap. Question: does every other plumbing fixture in your house drain OK ? Back to you. Milo
