Has anyone heard of side effects from taking zoloft during pregnancy and about birth defects?

I took zoloft for the first month of my pregnancy and then for the last two months and there has been no affect on my now 2 year old son. At the beginning of my pregnancy my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and I suffered from panic attacks, but stopped until the last two months for fear of very bad post partum because of my mothers worsening daignosis'... she is now OK also, except for a recent spot on her other breast...

Thanks yankeesfans2 I have a dear friend who is afraid to ask that question because her soon to be husband was killed in a car accident when she was 3 months pregnant... her son is 6yrs old and has seizures and who is now being tested for autism not to mention bad behavioral problems... I believe she is blaming herself for the stress and going on zoloft so I was just trying to find out info... I hope your mom is doing good I lost my mother to lung cancer and my father to neck, throat and tonsil cancer... it is hard to watch someone you love so much deal with cancer I will pray for her... thanks for taking the time to give your imput...

I have been on zoloft for the past 5 years and was not told that that was one of the side affects but I did have a seizure and that is one and one only yet they diagnosed me with epilepsy shortly after. I believe it is caused from this medication. I also shake big time and can't help it, its like I have got tremors or something. Every time I try going off the zoloft I go back into worse depression mode.

I think this medication caused my epilepsy. Like I say I have never had another one since which was around 4 years ago, they also say it is now improving from the medication I am taking for the epilepsy but this med. Is prone to birth defects also. Yes I am still on the zoloft. No doctor has ever told me to go off them.

Zoloft is a category (B) drug for pregnancy. This means that there were no known birth defects after the testing phase of the drug was completed. It is safe for pregnancy.
