View Full Version : Should I speak to HR about getting my old job back?

I loved doing what I did at my last job. However, I feel like I was terminated for wrong reasons. How do I know? Because 1. I was given a memo to sign that had false information about me 2. My old boss just wanted me out and I had no idea why I was treated the way I was. 3. Nothing made sense as other team members were favored the most. 4. I never signed the memo, however, did write a rebuttal which clearly did not do me justice.

In the end I was terminated, in fact I just walked out of the meeting when they were giving me the boot just because it was all cloudy and confusing to me why my manager accused of things I never did. Shortly after I was "let go" my former manager got the boot for slacking in what he was doing. Two years later, I found out that one of the memebers from my team had a fling with my manager, (this figured why she got promoted to do what I was doing) in fact they're getting married very soon. Turns out that everyone from that group was "let go" and the girl that was favored a lot got promoted to a Lead role. To make the long story short, as soon as higher management found out that this girl had a fling with the former manager who got the boot, she quit on the stop and left the company.
Now come to think of it, everything that was going on to me back then suddenly made sense. So now I want to go back to my old company that I once worked for and ask for my job back in a professional manor. Should I do it or not?

Side note: since I was "let go" I never found a new job. I got married shortly after and lived in a different country for a while. When I came back to states I got pregnant and stayed home with my baby. So now I'm ready to get back to work and I WANT MY OLD JOB BACK!

Should I give it a try or just forget about it?

I'd forget about it - you can always make an attempt by this time you've been replaced and the company has moved forward.

I would say that there's no harm in trying. But realize that you might fall back into the same holes again, or it could be even worse. Furthermore, there's no guarantee that they will take you back anyway.

I hear you, but why should I have suffered in losing my job because of office romance and plus, now everyone know this in the company so they longer work for the company 1 got the boot when I was let go and the other 1 quit as soon as it went public

Since you were fired, I doubt it will help, but then by now, perhaps they found out the boss that was wrong, had problems and they may now feel you were mistreated.

Of course the story of you walking out and more could still be the talk of the business

I walked out when I was told that it was my last day working there because I couldn't tolerate all the lies that were said and written about me and of course the way I was treated. No one knows I walked out & the details It all happened in HR office

Did you walk out and resign OR were you terminated because you walked out and never returned?

There's a difference.

That's why I said go for it, but just be prepared for the possible consequences.

I didn't resign, I was terminated. I walked out as I was being told no matter that I say or do it was my last day, also I saw that my former boss kept on going with the lies and the HR person was sitting there quite and helpless.

You can always try to get your job back on the grounds of wrongful termination - if there was an employment agreement OR union involved. Otherwise it's employment at will. It was their choice to terminate you.

If you collected Unemployment benefits they are very probably not going to be very happy to hear your name again, simply because you cost them money.

I'm curious - and I'm not judging - but why do you want to go back there if your former boss believed lies about you, you were terminated and HR did nothing - ?
