My spouse has been deported and I have been sick so the entire year's income is his. How do I file the tax return?

It will be a bit more difficult than if he were with you in the U.S. but NOT as difficult as you think if you use a tax professional who specializes in international taxation (like me).

I assume he has a SSN. You would need to get his W-2 AND whatever income he earned in his home country, plus taxes he paid in the home country.

You would file jointly and claim either the Foreign Tax Credit (Form 1116) or the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (Form 2555).
