"Intranet" can mean multiple things. Two common meanings are A) the company wants all the office computers networked as a LAN to share files and information, or B) the company wants an internal webserver setup on which to place applications and information for employee use and collaboration. So, I think the first step would be to determine exactly what the company wants.

First, please don't use the comments feature for follow-up. As you saw the amount of space is limited. Use the Answer options instead.

Why are you being asked to do this if you have no experience? Doesn't your company have IT support?

Do you already have a company network? Is it server based or peer to peer? If they just want a database you don't need an intranet. You can do something using Microsoft Access that might fit their needs. But the first thing you need to do is define EXACTLY what the needs are. Interview your bosses and find out exactly what they want this database to do for them.
