I am a Texas resident (moved there last year, lived there for a year, have car insurance, bank account, etc). However, I've been staying with my mom in New York for a while because my boyfriend is deployed to Iraq. I have a job in New York, but given that I'm going home to Texas soon, and will be back there permanently once my boyfriend gets home in another couple of months, I was under the impression I didn't have to become a New York resident. I'm not trying to get around any laws, I'm just very confused about how this all works, especially in terms of taxes. I'm happy to pay whatever is required and do anything else to keep everything above board, but I'm just not sure what that entails. Can anyone help me with this?

Okay, please give us precise dates as to when you lived and worked in Texas and when you lived with your mother and worked in New York.

We need this information to give concise advice.

Moved to TX in Aug 2009. Went to NY in Oct 2010, but a lot of time traveling since then. Going back to TX next week for a while, then hopefully will be there again permanently starting in April or May.
