My son has been having problems in his room for about 3 years now, at first it was just talking to him but now that he is 7 it has started to tap him on the head and say his name at night he is getting scared of it now. The tapping on the head is the most scarey for him what can I do to help him, I have tried a lot over the years and nothing works. What can I do.

Well first one has to believe in ghosts and from there would have to believe if they are real or not.

Children at those ages at times have invisible friends and companions that seem very real at the time. They interact with them, talk to them.

As the parent what do you believe, and you say you have tried a lot ? What have you tried ?

The first thing I would do is have the house blessed
By the clergy of your choice and see if it continues from there.

Yes according to christian beliefs and proof of people getting possessed, it is a demon. Get your house blessed, do prayers and u have to trust that god and jesus will will protect you . As long as you believe it. If something isn't done then it can lead to something sinister. They feed off fear to.
Bless you and your son .
