What is the price for re-routing a bathroom sink pipe into a stack to save a tiled bathroom floor... it's a duplex and the work has to be done on the second floor.. they have to take out a ceiling in the closet on first floor and part of the wall where the stack is located to do the job? What is a fair price?

Hi to you SimplyDiane!

Welcome to AMHD! I'm afraid you hit on a topic that is hard to work with. Here, all towns/cities/states have different pricing structures so anything that me or another guy offer up can be challenged by the next guy and it just gets all jumbled up online, you know?

I would recommend that you call in 3 plumbing contractors for free estimates and see what they think. Pick the one you feel best working with and don't forget to check references. You might be surprised how many skip this step... maybe?

If you are still unsure then call your local building department and speak with the building inspector or even better, the SECRETARY, (off the record, of course) and see what LOCAL companies they recommend... ;)

Pop back to discuss anything you have questions about... glad to help!

What is the stack made of?
Is the sink in, or is the wall totally exposed?
Why does the closet ceiling have to be removed too?
Is any other plumbing part of the job?
If you want to save money, cut out the wall yourself. Plumbers don't have to quote as high to cover unexpected problems.
