Hi. I had the timing belt and spark plugs changed 4 months ago, then the engine kept cutting out when I came to a stop. The AA man undid a tube which then kept the revs up. As you can see I know nothing about cars. OK, it was driving great. Then one night the petrol was low, so I went to the petrol station, filled up and drove back home. The next morning it wouldn't start, it was cranking but not catching. The AA man couldn't figure it out, 3 weeks on and my mechanic still can't find what the problem is. He said he's checked everything... hmmm not sure if he actually has, but he said he's confused. Well I really need the car because I'm a community nurse and I've been walking to all my patients miles for 3 weeks now and I have humumgus muscles on my legs! And working for the nhs, I can't afford a new car and my children are moaning. Has anyone got any ideas. Thank you. Ps its an old toyota carina e L REG

. Remove and fully charge the battery. Many auto parts stores will do this for free.

. Perform the tests in the link below:

I would replace the ignition coil and condenser, if the problem persists. Go with Toyota parts.

Kitch428's suggestion that it could be the gas is very possible. E10 gasoline has 10% alcohol, which has a tremendous affinity for moisture. With the drop in overnight winter temperatures, the absorbed moisture can physically separate from gasoline. Since the fuel pickup is on the bottom of the tank, it's easy to suck up only water. Hence, your engine won't run.

OK, I'm getting desperate now. My mechanic hasn't done anything with the car. He's looking at everyone else's car but mine. Its been 4 weeks now. Does anyone who knows how to fix the problem live anywhere near croydon surrey?

Could you tow it to a local Toyota dealership?
