My brother's ex girlfriend has a 2 year old child. They broke it off rather roughly 5 days ago and she is now on to another guy and introducing him to her child. From what I know this is a normal tact for her. I am away of drug and alcohol abuse as she is only 18 years of age. Also, she has no stable form of income and seems to jump from man to man for support. Their living conditions are not very good and as far a I can tell she is staying with the new guy. On several occasions she has left her child with another individual (not necessarily all acceptable individuals) to go out and party. Along with this she recently attempted to commit suicide, ending up in the ICU for an evening and spent a week in the psych ward of the hospital before being released. I am worried for the well fare of this child and an wondering if there are any grounds to report her or pursue some form of action to place the child in better, more capable hands?

Someone correct me if I am wrong here, but as far as I know, unless the baby is being harmed, or neglected (which as crappy as this life seems to be, the baby is not) there isn't much to be done. You can petition to have the mother involuntarily committed the next time she tries to kill her self. But that's about al you can do. Sadly, a mother can make whatever choices she wants for her and her child, even bad ones to a point.

If baby isn't in IMMEDIATE danger, like being abused, or neglected, or hurt in some way, there is no legal recourse. Unless she is CAUGHT with drugs. You can tip off police with her address if you like.

The best thing u can do is call and report her to social services, they will determine if the child is in harm, and in most cases they have to at least investigate. But I think Jenniepepsi is onto something as well.
