You can use a weapon if one attacker comes after you, if you follow the laws of the nation ( or state in the US)
For example, if it is illegal for you to own or possess certain weapons merely getting attacked does not make it legal to have or use them.
A general rule ( but not always everywhere) is that if you are in fear for your life you can ue needed force up to and including deadly force.

Hello tr:
Use the Google... Self defense is NOT that simple... Generally, it doesn't matter HOW many people attack you... IF you can run, then that's what the law will require... But, if you're cornered, that is when you generally can use whatever you've got in your pocket.

And to be blunt, the law on self defense is more than what is on the books, it is formed by case law, rulings of appeal courts and more.
But in general, you have to have no way to run or escape, if you can run away you are suppose to run first.
Next you can only use force that can seriously harm or kill if you feel your life is in danger.
For example, 3 guys are in your house and just carrying your TV and DVDs out the door, you can't hurt them, since they are no threat you to.
If they break in with knives and approach you with the knives you could.
Also what type of weapon, you could not use a gun in a large crowd since others could be hurt also.
But at the police academy we also had a saying, " better judged by 12 than carried by 6" meaning of course, better to act and be alive and have to stand trial for a crime, than to be dead.
