I have rented a place for 4 months into a 6 month lease the last 4 weeks the ceiling has been leaking, every time they try to fix it it gets worse, I have 4 leaks in the bathroom, 3 in the hallway and 4 in one of the kids bedroom. The light fixtures are filling up with water from the leaks I am worried about electrical issues. Th landlord said oh no it will be fine use the lights with all of the water in the them. The oven quit working and had to wait 2 weeks for that to be fixed/replaced because the landlord had personal vehicle issues. I asked if I could be let out of this lease so that they can fix things properly, since they onl;y want to fix outside leaks.. tar on a tin roof whe temps are in the teens and below.. they also said you know this won't work but its what we can do and We will keep doing it. No mention of fixing the ceiling tiles or the soaked insulation in the ceiling. I am worried about electrical issues and mold..
She does not want to let me out of the lease, and says I have not given her enough time to fix things... really 3 weeks.. isn't enough?? I think they could have had a contractor put a new roof on in that time..

Any advice or opinions welcome!
Thanks

Hi Tckipp...

I would recommend that you call a local housing authority in your area... start at the local town or city hall and see if they can direct you to a person that knows your rights.

Once you know your rights in your town/city you will know what steps to take on this.

As a last resort, call the local building inspector... they can direct you to someone or even pop out and take a look at the issues they think sound serious enough.

In my opinion, much of anything else offered here will not mean much... get local advise on this.

Good luck!
