Picked up a fiction book at the library a few years ago, read it and loved it and returned it. But it stayed with me and now I'd love to read it again but cannot remember the title or author! Grrrr...

It was a lot about the popes and the history of the catholic church... and the ending has a twist where it turns out that an imortal jesus is being held in a cell in the basement of the vatican.

After dan brown... trying to Google anything having to do with the vatican, popes and secrets is an impoosible task it seems. But I hope maybe someone has a memory of the book or is better at searching that I am.
