We have a wall in living room/kitchen w/ chimney behind it. Over the years, water damage has occurred due to leaks in the roof around the chimney. The individuals whom have owned the house in the past patched the wall. It is very unsightly, bowed, uneven surface, and cracked. We would like to remove the wall an put in a bar to open up kitchen and living room, but, am concerned that the chimney and wall are load bearing. If we cannot remove wall, what advice can you give on repairing the wall?

To find out if load bearing, find direction of ceiling beams. More then likely it is load bearing.

Can put in a girder/header to carry load. Need an engineer or architect to determine what size header.
