My husband and us (daughter and wife) came to the US on a L1 and L2 visas, Dec 20 2010. My husband just applied for his SSN. Our question is: We read we will need both SSN for our daughter and me, in order to apply for the tax return next year. How can we get our SSNs? Our daughter is almost 2 years old. I do not plan to work in the near future. We appreciate your help and information.

If you are authorized to work in the US you can apply for a SS number using form S5. See:
http://www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-5.pdf

If you are not authoroized to work, then for tax filing purposes what you need are Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN), which you get by submitting form W-7 to the IRS. Details are here:

Note that the Form W-7 for yourself and your daughter MUST be submitted WITH the tax return; they will be rejected if they are submitted by themselves.
