I'm thinkng of buying a used Volvo Cross Country V70 Wagon from the mechanic I've been going to for the last few years. He's always tried to help me out when I need work done since I'm a divorced single mother, so I trust him. But he's only been driving the car for two months and after doing some research I found that these cars, particularly, that year, only have an average reliability rating. Also, I read a lot of online reviews and though most people love driving it and say it's great in the snow, a lot of people did say it was in the shop a lot and was costly to repair. My mechanic said that's if you go to the dealer and that he would help me out if anything went wrong with it. Also, the digital odometer is broken. He said the guy he bought it from replaced it at 91,000 miles and the new one says it has about 48,000 miles on it. I'm concerned because I can't afford a lot of car repairs and because of the mileage. Does any one have opinions? He wants me to pay $5800. Thanks, Kelly

I wouldn't buy it. Too much mileage and too much uncertainty with Volvo these days. The Chinese recently bought the company. Be wary of what a mechanic is looking to sell.

Regardless of what you buy, this link should help you make a good decision:

Volvo's are very expensive to repair and get parts for, and quite honestly, aren't all that great(thats just my opinion)
