I'm not a Doctor but several years ago I took my 4-year old son camping with the 12-year old Scouts and he fell into the firepit (he tripped on some fishing line the scouts left out). After I threw him in the river and put ice on his arms I rushed him to the emergency clinic and they put cream on the burns and wrapped him up. They gave us a prescription for the cream which was Silvadene Cream (generic is called silver sulfadiazine). Since you already saw the doctor I would just call their office and ask for a prescription. This cream is amazing (sucks the heat off) and my son has no scarring.

This is a question that should be answered by a nurse or doctor. Without looking at it, you cannot be sure to not have a secondary infection, therefore, you don't want to use any cream, if you can't be sure it is indicated. The silver sulfadiazine will most likely help, and I would not use antibiotic ointment. It is not meant for big burn wounds. Also, if you can't afford the doctor, find a free clinic, or go to the ER. If you can't pay for treatment, most states have a program in place, to pay for you. Your hands are an important component of your body, if the outer layers get destroyed (and with them the nerve tissue), you could be seriously impaired later on. Go see a medical professional. Good luck!
