View Full Version : My Samsung Moment Touch Screen Barely Responds When Cold

I noticed that sometimes the touch screen on my Samsung Moment (2.1) doesn't respond to my finger taps, or even long hold downs.

But I finally realized that it only happens first thing in the morning when the phone, and my fingers, are cold. It happens with all areas of the screen, and it happens consistently.

I've tried removing the battery, as well as warming the screen (and my fingers) with my breath, but it makes no difference.

Later in the day, the screen is ultra sensitive.

I read that the screen is capacitive, so I would think that temperature would not play a major factor.

Is this a common problem with this model phone?

Any fixes that are available? (Please don't recommend another brand :-)

Thanks...

Update:

I received this response from a company that manufactures touch screen products. Here is their explanation for the problem:

Yes, this is something that I as a touch screen operator have also run into. What we've discovered is that it's not actually the lack of heat or presence of cold that stops the device from working. It's actually that your body dries out to retain more heat. The lack of moisture in your fingers makes your fingers less conductive.

If you are very cold and lick your fingers, you'll probably still be able to activate the device.
