I started my basement remodel two years ago in my 1930 one family, two story home in North New Jersey. I'm finally at the stage where I am going to start to frame out and install bathroom in basement. Before finding this site, unfortunately,I had a plumber install a new sewer line to the street and plumbing for a bathroom in the basement. The main/soil stack was cast iron and now it is PVC.
Jackass me did not take pictures when everything was open so please forgive me.
The placement of the bathroom is before the main stack that leads to the street. According to everything I have been reading it is wet vented. Is this OK? If it is not code will it work? No I did not get a permit because my taxes would increase even more and I'm a single mother doing this on my own. Thank you for helping.

Hi HG...

Yeah, it looks like the plumber may have wet vented the toilet using the shower drain/vent and that is OK in most states.

I'm guessing that the sink will connect into the 4"x2" wye fitting that has tape on it? If so, then that is fine, but the sink vent and the toilet/shower vent will all need to connect into a 2" or larger vent to finish the job, right?

What is connected above the 4" cleanout... everything in the house? If so, that is fine, too, but if nothing then you could connect all the vents into this stack but I'm betting other stuff connects into the 4", right? Let me know.

I would also recommend that you install a 2" cleanout in the vent pipe near the steam boiler and face it toward the steam boiler so you can use it if the shower drain clogs down the road.

More questions? Just let us know...
