Four Years ago I lived with a roommate. We ended on bad terms and she decided to move out, Our agreement being that she would continue to pay her portion of rent. A few days later I was hit with a fine for a dog barking on my balcony and then within hrs had a note on my door giving me 24 hours to vacate the apartment (evicted). When I went into the apartment office to find out what was going on the manager wouldn't even speak with me and asked me to leave immediately or she would call the cops on me! I was young and dumb and scared and packed up ALL my belongings and left. Then a year later I got a call from the credit agency wanting $4,000 for unpaid rent and 'damages'. I found out my old roommate was not being held responsible for ANYTHING. In fact they claimed I signed a paper that released her from all liability. Now 4 years later I am trying to correct this credit problem. The credit company now says they can't find any form I signed and in fact are saying that the manager personally released my roommate from her lease without any explanation. Also, the apartments are now claiming they never 'evicted' me that I skipped out on my lease! Being young and dumb I didn't keep the eviction letter, all I have is my word and one witness who happened to help me move out... What do I Do? I feel like I was set up.
