We have had limited water for the past week. I check the pressure tank and it's full, have a shower, do laundry, flush a few toilets and now the tank is empty. The well pump kicks on and in 5-10 seconds shuts off. The tank still empty. The pump continuously does this, and after 5-8 hours the pressure tank is finally full. A water softner is hooked up to it as well, and the salt has not been disapting. I believe either the well is dry, but then why do I eventually get water?. I did check the air in the pressure tank and it is fine.. The tap in the bathroom drips steadily, is that an issue? I was told the pump has a pump troll, and it shuts the pump off when there is no water to pump, but the pump goes on and off frequently over the hours. I am just totally confused where to start, please help!

Yes, it sounds like a low water situation. Using the water lowers the well and then not using it lets the water level rise again. How deep is the well? What type of pump do you have?

We Have a submersible pump and the depth is 84 feet. But water eventually does come in, maybe there is a block down in the well?

84 ft' isn't that deep if you are in a drought area. You could only have 40' of water and with a washer, showering, toilet use, you run out of water until it recharges. I'd check the water level and see how much water is in it. Our house in the GA mountains is 100' from a year round river and is 225 ft' deep with 200' on the pipe. Never runs out.
