My wife's daughter is three years old and lives with her dad's parents. I would like to adopt her daughter so that She can have custody and see her daughter more often. I know that there is a long process but I would like to know if there is anyway I can get started on that process.

You get started by consulting an attorney. But I would think there is only a slim chance you can get this done. I'm assuming that the daughter is living with her paternal grandparents. And that they have custody.

To evaluate your chances, we would need to know why they have custody and not the mother (your wife) and where the father is in this. Also ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.

But, if the father doesn't consent to the adoption, there is almost no chance it will happen. You have a better chance of petitioning the court for increased visitation.
