I use to work in the hospital making 18 dollars an hour (clerical). I was released from prison two years ago and the only place I seem to be able to find employment is in a restaurant making 8 dollars an hour or 9. I found a few employment agencies that deal specific with ex felons... what a joke. The employment counselors are going on craigslist and sending you on interviews. I can do that myself. NONETHELESS... can anyone tell me where I can go for job placement, a good paying job. I am completely frustrated and poor. Is there any place that has connections and can help place me in a good paying job?

We are in a RECESSION. People are taking $8 jobs who used to make $50.

Have you considered starting your own business? I agree that the agencies who supposedly help felons find employment are a BIG JOKE. It's very frustrating. I myself am a felon and started my own business without any capital. I advertised my services on craigslist while working my full-time job. I worked my business on a part-time basis until I was confident enough to venture out on my own.

What do I do? I started bar tending for private parties. Eventually, I gained corporate accounts. I then started receiving requests for all sorts of event staff. Such as waitstaff, security, ushers, ticket takers, etc, etc. If an event requires more than one person, I hire independent contractors to meet the demand. I built my own website and pay $20/mth to maintain it. I charge an hourly rate for my services and still make a profit even if I don't work the event myself.

I believe that the only way felons can survive in this unforgiving society is to work for ourselves. Find out what it is that you enjoy doing and research how to start your own business doing it. Good luck!

I will be blunt, you are lucky right now to have found that job,

People with no record and 10 to 20 years of good employment are unemployed. Places that used to pay 20 dollars a hour have cut their pay by 25 percent to some 50 percent.

Others have not given raises in 3 years, and stopped paying as much for benefits, In many cases people are bringing home 300 to 400 a month less today than 2 years ago,

I know that is my own case.

And for any one job you go to, there will be 100 or more appliations, if you even get an interview you are lucky.

So what you are saying is an ex felon might as well go back to prison, or do something to go to prison?

She was not being a jerk! We are in a RECESSION! My husband, who is not a felon and has a clean record, has a skill that is in high demand, but cannot find a job. Not even a restaurant job. You need to thank your lucky stars that you have the job you have and stop being so cynical.

Look bro,

I am a felon just like you.. our cases may be different, but all employers see the same thing. FELON! It hurts knowing that one wrong choice has ruined my life completely. I have been homeless since I got out of prison due to my felony. But what pushes me, instead of complaining or gryping, prayer. Maybe one day I will be blessed enough to find employment with a felony. Maybe I will die due very unsafe living conditions. I don't know. What I do know is your blessed enough to have a damn job whether it be for 8 or 9 dollars, where there are people who can't find anything. Praise your blessings because I would love to be in your shoes.
