Hello,
We have an oil furnace that is about 15 yrs old. It has ran great until last year... it started kicking off. The repairman would come, do a few adjustments & it would work for 3-5 mo. He's changed the nozzles & such. Well, this year has been the same. It was cutting off in the middle of the night & so the repairman thought it may be the fuel pump... he said if that didn't work we need a new furnace (we don't have $4k right now). Anyway, he replaced the fuel pump, it worked great for 3 weeks & then it went out again... at night. My husband was able to restart it for 3 or 4 nights by bleeding it, but now that doesn't work. It's real sooty inside & several posts that I've read says it needs to be cleaned out, but the repairman says that ours cannot be cleaned because it's a double wide oil furnace... not sure exactly why. Is there anything else we should try? Also, we only have about 100 gal in a 500 gal tank... could there be junk getting in the line... should we clean the tank out or order more oil? When it runs, it runs great so why would we need a new one.. it seems there may be something that we're just not fixing.
Thank you
Chuck & Renee
