Anyone have problems with electric windows on an 02 Pontiac Grand Prix? My son has gone through 5 or 6 replacements for the mechanism which moves the window up and down. Every one of them has been replaced at least once, and some more than once. Suggestions?

This is a known problem due to an exceptionally poor regulator design. You can buy a dormanproducts.com regulator. At least it has a lifetime warranty. Doesn't mean it will last that much longer, but at least they'll replace it for free.

If you follow their warranty validation criteria, they will provide a replacement part, but you will still be paying for labor, unless you can find a labor warranty to go along with the part.

The dealer will usually cover warranty labor for one year. So as soon as the labor warranty expires, the GM part will fail. This cable pulley design is total cr_p. The best thing you can do to reduce the likelihood of future failures is to soak the the window channels with dry teflon lube several times per year. Don't use silicone spray because it attracts dust and dirt. Also spray the rubber mating surfaces. The will reduce the stress on the cables and pulleys as the window opens and closes--especially in icy conditions.

Thanks for the answer. You would think some enterprising company would come up with a part that actually works. It has been really frustrating. We have one rear window that we just blocked in the up position. Will probably do that with the other rear window when it locks up. You would think that any halfway competent design engineer could have come up with something better than that.
