I am trying to light the pilot light on my older Maytag dryer. I cannot find any button to push while lighting the light area. All I see are screws, and electrical wire connections. The dryer does not heat and I assume that it is old enough to have a pilot that needs lighting. Thanks

This must be a VERY old dryer to have a pilot. Most dryers use a glow bar or hot surface ignitor system. Check the model out on the internet. If the ignitor, glow bar or limit switch go bad, the dryer won't allow the gas to go on.

Thank you, I am a complete ZERO when it comes to machines. I have never had a machine that didn't have to have the pilot light lit, and I can usually do it with some work. This was my grandmother's dryer and I have had it for years. I will look for more info on the machine. I may need to break down and call a repair company. I appreciate your answer!

You could be right but I just got rid of a Kenmore dryer, 43 years old, and it had a glow bar ignitor. If it has a gas pilot, there should be a gas valve with a knob on top.

I'm thinking you're right. I see no knob at all. I guess that home warranty will come in handy. I was just hoping to do a quick fix myself and save the fix it fee for them to come out. Thanks again for your input. I'm new to this site and see that it will be very handy. Lots of good info out there in many people.

Go to the Maytag site, enter model#, usually on a plate inside on the door or frame and then their help desk, it should show you what to do. Much of the time it is a bad ignitor or limit switch.
