over the summer I had an injury in softball I twisted it the wrong way but in basketball seasen I twisted it again but it hurt worse this pain is in the right knee it is in the lower/left side of my knee. I went to the er but they didn't see anything on the x-ray.they put me on crutches. I came off crutches a week later I was walking but it started up again. I know this has something to do with my tendons/ligements/muscles. I need an answer to what is wrong and how to treat it.I also need to know if I'm going to have to get surgery or physical theropy. I would appricate it if u could find an answer to my pain.

Kind of difficult to say, juli, but if it is a ligament injury, ligaments don't heal, if it is torn. No, x ray won't show this actually, surgery can't repair a ligament, but physical therapy may give you a little relief. I could take a wild guess and say your days of extreme jumping sports are done.

You will have to manage the pain, which won't actually be occurring by the torn ligament, but other stress is happening on the knee joint because the ligament is not working... with anti inflammatories such as advil, motrin, ibuprofen.

One term commonly mentioned is ACL, anterior cruciate ligament. Here's a good site with pictures and surgical procedures.
