First off, your help is much appreciated!

My wife and I are planning an urban garden of sorts, with flowers, herbs, & veggies if possible... Problem is, it's in an urban setting. And much of the sunlight is blocked. We probably only get about an hours worth of sun in the summer, and virtually none in the winter.

We're located in the mysterious (of late) NJ climate. Is there anyone who can recommend certain types of flowers, herbs, and veggies plants that can grow in this environment??

We don't have green thumbs, but we're looking forward to learning!
Any tips at all would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Impatiens and hostas do well in the shade. So do ferns. Can't think of any veggies that will do well, maybe lettuce in hot weather.

There are numerous plants for your conditions but do you plan on planting Annuals or Perennials? I've found that growing herbs in pots is easier than in the ground and that growing them inside in front of a window is easier as well.
