I need to replace my shower head and it looks like I am going to need to replace the pipe that comes out from the wall as well. I just want to know if this is something that needs to happen with the water shut off to the apartment or if I will be OK with just the faucets turned off? Also do I need to solder these pipes together?

Thanks,

You should be able to replace the head and the chrome arm without turning off the water other than the valves on the faucet. The chrome "dogleg" looking pipe is just screwed into a fitting in the wall, unscrew it by turning it counter-clockwise, but first wiggle the shower head and see how stable the pipe coming out of the wall is, it should be connecter to a board in the wall that will hold it steady.

You do not need the water shut off to the apartment as long as the part you need to replace is above the valves that turn off your water to the shower... Also you are going to need a joint to connect the two pipes...
