New York City? From what I read and hear, you practically need a special law degree in NYC condo co-op law. Boards get the upper hand pretty much, and you have to hire a lawyer if you want to fight. Support in writing from other owners in the building might help.

Boards can write their own bylaws about every little detail of renovations, outlaw washers and dryers, pets, home based businesses, you name it. If you care to tell the story below, feel free.
