We are having concrete removed from garage floor, and expect to refill it ourselves after plumber does his work. In Long Is NY, in a home only 6 yrs old, what can we expect to have to do? We will see what comes out of floor, but need a heads up on what to expect our work to be... are we taking on too much? Masonry guy says hole will be 24"+ deep so plumber can join up new toilet waste pipe. 4" pipe runs right by closet (site of planned new half bath), about 2 - 2 1/2 ' away from closet door, according to house plans. It runs straight to clean out pit in garage, but the connection will occur close to the closet. We don't know if concrete holds rebar or wire mesh, yet. Price doubles if masonry guy comes back to refill concrete... thus our intention to make it a diy project.

Are you asking how to patch the trench after the plumber finishes roughing in?

We don't know if concrete holds rebar or wire mesh My bet's on wire mesh.

Price doubles if masonry guy comes back to refill concrete... It's really not that big a deal to patch a trench. We do it all the time. Good luck, Tom

I don't see a big deal. Slab 4" deep on wire mesh maybe. The depth they dig below doesn't matter; just put the dirt, gravel and sand back in order and tamp it as you go. Don't worry about the cut wire. You need a mixing tub, a shovel, and a water supply. Buy a few bags of ready mix, wet down the old concrete around the edge, try to work on as warm a day as possible or with a heater. It takes strength to mix. I wouldn't have this patch be right under the new bathroom. If it is, wait for the concrete to cure and check to make sure there's no crack around it after it dries.
