Hi,
Here is my problem. I reinstalled Windows XP and now my audio isn't working. Like many others my device manager says "multimedia audio controller" isn't working. So I guess I need a new driver. I don't know how to install a new driver or where to find the right one. I have looked everywhere.
My PC is a Dell Dimension 2300 running Windows XP and the driver is apparently called an 82801DB AC97 Audio Controller [ICH4A1 step]. That I learned using Unknown Device Identifier 5.02 but it doesn't help me much.
Could someone please tell me how to install a driver and where to find one?
Thanks!

Well for starters check out Dell's own site right HERE (http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs) as they will have all the drivers you need.

I'll look again. Thanks...
Nothing.. at this page Drivers & Downloads (http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_2300&os=WW1&osl=EN)
The Audio Driver listed is actually on my resource CD and on my computer working fine.

OK here's the easy way.
Download the driver by CLICKING HERE (http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R46202.EXE)
Here are the instructions:
Download
1.Click Download Now, to download the file.
2.When the File Download window appears, click Save this program to
disk (Windows XP users, click Save) and click OK. The Save In: window
appears.
3.From the Save In: field, click the down arrow then click to
select Desktop and click Save. The file will download to your desktop.
4.If the Download Complete window appears, click Close. The file
name icon appears on your desktop.
Install
1.Double-click the new icon on the desktop labeled R46202.EXE.
The Self-Extractor window appears.
2.Click OK or Continue.
The Self-Extracting Driver Installation window appears and prompts to
extract files to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R46202.
3.Leave all of the default settings and click Unzip or OK. If the
directory doesn't exist, you'll be prompted to create one. Click Yes. A
Self Extractor window appears and indicates C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R46202 files were
extracted.
4.Click OK.
Follow the on-screen installation instructions in the window.
These are the correct drivers for your system.
If they don't work post back as there is another problem.
