I have a child turning 25 in April 2007, she is a full time student and lives at home. I know that insurance can only cover until she turns 25. I heard that once she turns 25 I cannot claim her as a dependent any longer as well. So, if I keep her on my insurance until she turns 25 in April am I able to claim that next year on my taxes? I am confused about how this works. Any help would be very appreciated!

Thank you,
Ashley:)

Ashley:

You can claim your child until you die if you provide over half of her support AND she makes less than $3,300 (for 2006).

However, once her taxable income exceeds $3,300, then you can no longer claim her as a dependent on your tax return, because, at age 25, the student exception no longer applies.
