I was reading your post in "squeaky clothes dryer" and I had a question.
I have the same problem.
I have an older model "Simplicity" gas dryer. I think that it is also the rear drum bearings, but how can I check to tell if that is actually the problem and if it is the problem how do I repair it on my model.
Note.
I currently removed the top, front and I am just wondering how to get the drum out.
Thank you... R.

On mine, you have to remove the belt (usually a belt tensioner spring/wheel assembly). Move the wheel to loosen the belt, the belt will slide off. Once the belt is off, you should be able to lift from the top to get the drum out. Mine was too tight, I had to remove the screws that attached the drum to the bearing post from inside the drum, not sure if yours has that or not. I put it back together after it was out. Careful that if you have screws you have access to what you need to put it back together (ie: it's not incased).
Watch out also for sharp metal.

Thanks,
I have since taken apart the dryer. I was going to look at both the rear drum bearing and the Idler wheel and try to figure out which one was the problem. Then I realized that there is no rear drum bearing, as the drum is not a drum, rather just a hoop. So Idler wheel it is.
I picked up the part the other day and I will be installing it in the next day or so.
By the way as a short term fix I took the idler wheel apart and sprayed it with "move it", a wd-40 type of dry lubricant. We have been using the dryer like this for a couple of days and it is starting to make noise, but it far more bearable than the banchee that used to live in my basement...
