Our heat is turning off before it reaches the set temperature. Our weekend house (and its central air system) are only four years old. Up until now, the heat and the A/C have worked perfectly. In the winter, we leave the thermostat set at 50 degrees when we leave. It seems to stay at that temperature from Sunday to Friday (when we return). However, for the last few weeks, when we come in and turn the heat up to 68, the heat will get up to about 62 and shut off. It won't go any higher unless I turn the thermostat off and on again. I have to do this two or three times until the temperature gets up to the set point. After it gets up to 68, it does seem to be able to maintain the temperature. Because we are novice homeowners (we have lived in apartments all of our lives) we were wondering if there were an obvious solution to this problem. If it's an easy fix, we'd like to try that before we call a repairman. (We have a White-Rodgers thermostat, by the way.)
