View Full Version : Is the pay worth the commute?

I just finished school for Phelbotomy, but the market is saturated, and until I find a job in my field, I am looking for a job to make ends meet.

I was offered a daily babysitting job, for 100 a week. (I have NO money at the moment, so 100 a week, while not a lot, is more than I have)

However, the job site is 21mils away.

Is the commute worth the money? Or would I spend my whole check or more on gas to commute?

What kind of mileage does your car have and how much is gas in your area?
And how much per hour does that work out to? Are you babysitting every day all day? Just because it's babysitting doesn't mean that they don't have to pay you a fair wage.

Its babysitting Monday Wednesday and Friday, from 7am, until 4pm. I'm not good at math but I think its like 2 bucks an hour. But like I said I have no money at the moment so 400 a month is better than nothing.

My car gets great mileage. It's a 2000 ford escort zx2. I was able to drive 430 miles to California on one tank of gas. And then 430 back on one tank of gas.

Well, your doing 42 miles round trip. A newer car averages about 28 miles per gallon (I guess). Gas prices right now are sitting close to $3.00. In business week you are doing 210 miles / 28 miles per gallon = 7.5 gallons. X $3 = $22.50 per week in gas.

I'd ask them for gas money seeing as they're not paying you a fair wage.

It takes about 30 to fill my tank. So if sharpers math is right, almost a tank of gas a week. Mmm. It MIGHT be worth it as far as at least getting SOME cash.

I agree alty, I will ask them if they can put some gas upfront for it.
