Little background, I have been friends with this girl for a long time and we have always had chemistry. For various reasons she had always said she would never date me though. Recently that changed and we are now dating, only been about a week but hopefully it continues. On to the question... Her family has a Christmas dinner and they exchange gag gifts, she invited me to the dinner and wanted to know if I wanted to be included in the gift exchange. Of course I said yes, who doesn't love gag gift exchanges :D As my luck would have it I drew her dad's name. Her dad lives out of town and I never even have met him! So needless to say Im a little frightened on what I should get him as a gag gift. Don't want it to be too crazy but not something that is blah. So here I am asking for some good ideas. Anyone have any?

Thanks :D

We know her dad about as well as you do. Why not ask your girlfriend for ideas. So you don't give away the fact that you have her dad's name, ask her what a good gag gift might be for her mom or for her dad or for her sister "just in case" you might have that name. You can always take a leap from any ideas she gives you.

Say her dad has always wanted a red sports car. Buy a Hot Wheels type sports car (with little doors that open, the hood pops up), wrap it up in a small box, put that in a larger box and wrap it, then put that in an even larger box. Thus, the gift ends up to be in a big box.

What you could do is get him a nice gift, put it in a box, and duct tape the hell out of it. Just wrap the duct tape around the box over and over and over. Then wrap it in pretty Christmas wrapping paper.

That will be quite a challenge for him to open. Haha

I did this to someone before, and they couldn't get it open. They actually got upset. BUT, when she did get it open, she really liked what I got her, and said, "OK, that was worth it."

Good Luck

You might ask what type of gifts have been given in the past so that you don't repeat a gag that has lost its humor. Get her started talking about past exchanges and what went over well and what failed miserably.

This could be a great way to learn more about her family dynamics that you might not have known and keep you from treading on toes at festive occasion.

If you want to stay on the safe side, then I suggest you get some tips from your girlfriend.

Another safe gift is to find out what's his favorite sports team and buy something related.

Enigma, you're funny! Duct tape -- perfect sealer for a guy! A couple of years ago, I gave a gag gift to another librarian and used a ton of library book tape to seal the package. There is nothing in the world like book tape! Even though I'm retired, I keep a good supply of different widths of book tape on hand.

:) Even though it was a challenge for her, she received a nice Guess purse out of it. So she said that it was worth it.

I didn't want to make it to easy for her.:D

To the OP --

The packaging of the gag gift might be the best part of the gift. You can have increasing smaller carefully wrapped boxes, and each box can contain a clue as to the identity or location of the gift.
