I want to get a floor lamp rewired and working and I have a couple questions? The floor lamp was wired wrong, wires to the three way were crossed. The insolation on the wire is discolored by the connection to the switch. Do I need to replace the cord? The switch is discolored by the point were the bulb makes contact in the bottom of the switch, do I need to replace the three way switch? I was thinking if I wire it correctly the cord and switch would still be OK? Discolor of cord would not effect the flow of electricity would it or would it compromise the insolation and if so could I just cut it back the rest of the cord looks OK? The switch seems to be functioning properly and when wired correctly it would perhaps be OK?

If the discoloration was caused by heat (probably) then affected components could be compromised. Lamp parts aren't that expensive, replace all that shows signs of overheating and be done with it.
