It's not designed to recover data from damaged hard drives.

Then how can I get back my data? Are there any other options ? When I put the hiren's cd it displays an option saying recovery tools.

You can try their freeware on the CD: Hard Drive Data Recovery using Freeware Programs » Page 1 - www.hiren.info (http://www.hiren.info/downloads/data-recovery/hard-drive/1). That may work if you only wish to recover files that you have deleted from a healthy drive.

But if the hard drive is physically damaged then specialists use expensive equipment that reads the platters.

My hard drive is not damaged. My computer didn't start and I had to format it since it said there is some virus .I didn't know I would lose my entire data. I want my books and pictures back but have no idea how. I was told to use hirens boot cd. Mine is single partitioned hard drive . I'm so confused .
