I am trying to find the title of a cartoon my kids watched and loved. It's about this dog who's family (husband and wife) go out for dinner or something and leave the dog alone. I think there was a cat in the cartoon also. All my kids remember the part where the dog is so excited to be fed and the can of dogfood is opened and turned upside down and the food just plops out as one big piece. The dog was so disappointed and he ears go down….Geez…it seems like the husband and wife were mostly shown from the waist down because the story is all from the Dogs' perspective. Can anyone help me?? I believe is was showing in the late 80's or early 90's.

A long suffering dog (the little girl forces him to play dolly and dress-up, the young son is a cruel bully) comes up short when he must defend his home against two bungling burglers. The family returns home to find their belongings gone. The dog's taken to a special guard dog training camp where he's toughened up. When the burglers return to hit the house again, they find that the dog has become a much more vicious dog. The small dog bites one of the burglers and refuses to let go. He attaches himself leech-like to the burgler and they have no choice but to leave with him. The family's distraut when they come back home and find the dog has been taken. Eventually the dog causes the burglers to get caught and he becomes a hero.

It's pilot was first shown as an episode of NBC's Amazing Stories, and was later picked up by CBS as a series
