I was regrettably arrested for shoplifting in Illinois and plead guilty. I was given a year supervision (which is over) and fined 300 dollars, but was not convicted. My lawyer said this was done since this was the only trouble I had ever been in and if I were to be convicted it would haunt me for the rest of my life. I feel like it still does, though. I will soon be given a background check in order to be able to start my clinical hours in hospitals in order to finish nursing school. I am so worried that I will be denied ability to continue participation in the program due to the background check. What will the check reveal, and will it bring about problems for me? Please help me. Any information would be great. Thanks so much.

There are TWO ways convictions happen in our criminal courts. The first is if a jury FINDS you guilty, and the second is if you PLEAD guilty yourself... In terms of your record, it makes NO difference HOW your were found guilty.

Sorry to pop your balloon.
