I use to work for a company that at the time had Mass Mutaul and then it was Fedelity. It has been several years and I am not trying to locate my 401K but the compnay I use to work for and Mass Mutual is telling me they have record of me but since the money was never cashed it was trans to Fedelity, well now Fedelity is telling they have no record of me in their system. How do I go about findng out where this money is?

Hello j:

If Mass Mutual had it, and admits they had it, but Fidelity never received it after Mass Mutual said they transferred it, you need to go back to Mass Mutual and demand they show you WHERE they transferred the money to. They DO have a paper trail of that money. You need to find it. Yes, you might have to stay on the phone with them for a while, going from one supervisor to another - or you might have to VISIT them in person. I don't know HOW much they want to avoid responsibility, but it's your job to prevent them from doing so.

You should have received a "final" statement from Mass Mutual that showed the transfer out of your account, with a zero balance at the end -- did you ever receive that?

All pension plans are required to file with the SSA that they have a benefit for you. When you file for your SS benefits you will be informed about benefits available to you.
