In 1976, Jeff Lynne of ELO recorded the song for the evanescent musical documentary... Keeping his part of the deal, Bragg included "With a Little Help..?

Joe Cocker recorded a slow version of 'A Little Help From My Friends' but maybe I'm getting confused because although I think The Beatles sang this, it's not the same song as 'Help' sorry if this is of no help.

I don't believe the OP is asking about "get by with a little help", but the song "help!"
Maybe as a Brit I can shed some light on it :)
Here you go: Covers of the song "Help!"
* U2 played it often during their 1986 A Conspiracy of Hope Tour and 1987 Joshua Tree Tour at a slower tempo.
* Noel Gallagher perfomed it at certain Oasis concerts at a slower tempo.
* Paul McCartney also slowed it down a bit when he played it during his 1990 concert tour as part of a tribute to Lennon.
* "Help!" has also been covered by Deep Purple, The Carpenters, Bananarama (with British comediennes French & Saunders and Kathy Burke as Lananeeneenoonoo), Dolly Parton, Alma Cogan, Tina Turner, John Farnham, Rick Wakeman, The Damned, Howie Day, McFly, Roxette and Fountains of Wayne.
* In 1976, Henry Gross covered it for the ephemeral musical documentary All This and World War II. John Lennon once stated that this was his favourite version of the song. George and Paul do backing vocals.
* In 1976, The Damned his covered the song for the B-side of New Rose.

Here are both songs:
With A Little Help From My Friends Lyrics
Billy Shears?
What would you think if I sang out of tune,
Would you stand up and walk out on me.
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song,
And I'll try not to sing out of key.
Oh I get by with a little help from my friends,
Mmm I get high with a little help from my friends,
Mmm I'm going to to try with a little help from my friends.
What do I do when my love is away.
(Does it worry you to be alone)
How do I feel by the end of the day
(Are you sad because you're on your own)
No, I get by with a little help from my friends,
Mmm I get high with a little help from my friends,
Mmm I'm going to to try with a little help from my friends
Do you need anybody?
I need somebody to love.
Could it be anybody?
I want somebody to love.
Would you believe in a love at first sight?
Yes I'm certain that it happens all the time.
What do you see when you turn out the light?
I can't tell you, but I know it's mine.
Oh I get by with a little help from my friends,
Mmm I get high with a little help from my friends,
Oh I'm going to try with a little help from my friends
Do you need anybody?
I just need someone to love.
Could it be anybody?
I want somebody to love.
Oh I get by with a little help from my friends,
Mmm going to try with a little help from my friends
Oh I get high with a little help from my friends
Yes I get by with a little help from my friends,
With a little help from my friends!

Help, I need somebody,
Help, not just anybody,
Help, you know I need someone, help.
When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me?
And now my life has changed in oh so many ways,
My independence seems to vanish in the haze.
But every now and then I feel so insecure,
I know that I just need you like I've never done before.
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me.
When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me, help me, help me, oh.
