View Full Version : How should I go about cutting my hair this way?

My current hair is awful, in both colour and cut, so I really want a change. I've ordered the rainbow pack from here: http://haircrazy.com/product/stargazer-rainbow-pack/ Which is great value, when you consider that it would be more expensive to buy the dyes separately - even on eBay!
This is my horrible hair now:

Since I've bought the dye, I can't afford to get my hair cut, so I'm going to do it myself. I've cut my own fringe before, and I'm pretty confident at it, but I'd still feel better with some advice for the more complex cut that I want.
This is what I want :

but I could settle for something like one of these :

Anybody with any tips on how I should go about doing this?

How are you going to manage cutting the back?

I was planning on using 2 mirrors, angled so I can see the back in the mirror in front. Its what I do fro styling and I'm pretty used to it, so seeing my hair won't be a problem, I just need to be able to cut it right!

Do you have a good friend who could help you with this? Or even make a party of it with several friends?
I think you'd look very cute with that style (first link), and it would bring out your cheekbones and the planes of your face.

I can get my mums help, but I feel more confident if I'm the one holding the shears! I've cut other peoples hair before, to a satisfactory standard, but this would be my first time cutting all of my own hair, and with such a tricky style...

The main thing would be to get the idea of the style before you start cutting -- that one side is longer than the other, how the bangs sweep over the forehead, and note how long the sections are. If you take it slow and have someone's help, even if it's not exact, I'm guessing you will look awfully cute.
You can always snip and trim later, don't forget.

:D thanks.
I've been having a good look at it, and other styles and I'm pretty hopeful I should manage it. If its really bad I can always borrow money to get it fixed!

Take it slow, and cut "longer" first and comb it out, so you don't end up cutting off too much too early.

Yeah I can be a bit scissor happy with my fringe, so I'll have to remind myself not to over cut. Thanks for all the advice!

And add it to this thread so I can find you again. (It will automatically pop up in my Answered Questions.) Otherwise, I might not notice it if it's drifting around in Hair Care (where I don't usually hang out).
