I have a house in South Dakota, built in 1964. I have 2 floor drains approximatly 7 inches in diameter recessed in the floor. 1 in the laundry room and 1 in a make shift 3/4 bathroom. The floor drain in the bathroom they have used as a shower, they placed paneling and 2x4 to enclose it. The sink is drained into the shower area. No p trap on the sink and not connected to the drain at all. I have torn everything out today and I am wondering how to connect bathtub and sink together as far as a drain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Deaner...

Does the sink have a VENT? If not, it will need a minimum 1.5" vent and if you want to install the tub drain properly you will need to make that sink vent 2" and connect it into the closest 2" or larger vent and wet vent the tub using this vent... ;)

Here, you will need to open the floor up and run piping from the floor drain piping (remove trap here) to the sink and the proper drain location for the tub. As you know Ptraps will be needed at both fixtures. You will also need access to the tub drain now and perhaps in the future so keep that in mind when you decide which end of the tub to put your drain pipe.

Otherwise, you could install a pump system for the sink, but I advise against it as chipping the floor out is super cheap, labor-intensive, but requires no replacement pumps down the road, you know?

Thanks for your great advise and drawing. I took the advice on doing the labor thing, I rented a jackhammerand tore up the concrete
Of the floor!! Fun job. After running the 2inch pipe branching off with a Y etc... It only took 12 bags of concrete to fill in the
Destruction I created,, of course I did box out both areas in case of any problems down the road... Water is draining great,
Ran a garden hose down both areas to see if I goofed up and it works fine... Again Thank You!!
