I am in a high rise condo building. My bedrooms(2) arc fault circuit breaker (1) seems to be in off position (the 15amp switch) after the power in my 2 bedrooms went out quietly during the day.
However, I cannot move the 15 amp switch back to the 'on' position. What is the likely problem?

Try to turn it off first, then on.

It is already in off position. I just cannot turn it back on. I already unplugged all the electrical attachments (TV, radio, bedroom lights, etc.) in the 2 bedrooms. I still cannot put the arc fault circuit breaker switch back to 'on' position.

It is probably defective. What brands is it? I believe there was a recall for Square D. Check at CPSC Home Page (http://www.cpsc.gov/) to see if you brand has had problems.

I figure also that the circuit breaker must be somewhat defective, and did not respond normally to a perhaps short circuit situation such as a blown light bulb. Unfortunately, I cannot see a manufacture's name on the unit! The label must have been peeled off.
Thank you for your help.

Just look at the label on the inside of the panel door for the brand panel you have.
