When time to do first oil change, I am told to use synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 or Amsoil. What is the preferred or recommendation for this.
Thanks

Your owners manual will have the recommended oil for your vehicle. Good luck

Synthetic, of course. Either Mobil 1 or Amsoil SAE 5W-30 are excellent choices. I would also use a premium oil filter (e.g. Mobil 1 EP, Amsoil Ea, or Purolator PureOne).
In 1993, I started using Mobil 1 SAE 5W-30 in my 1993 Civic DX from the very beginning. I did just what Mobil recommended--drove the car from the show room to the service bay and start using full synthetic engine oil. 18 years later, the car still tests like a new car, when it's emission tested. It's allowed 200 ppm of CO--it tests at 6 ppm. Emissions testing is the best overall test of the condition of an engine. At 1,100 miles, I drained the manual transmission and refilled with Mobil 1 SAE 10W-30. Today, I use Amsoil SAE 5W-30 Synthetic MTF.
